Midwives, depending on their designation, may deliver babies in hospitals, birth centers or clients' homes. Midwives work to provide holistic care, and generally help their clients avoid unnecessary medical intervention during the prenatal and birth process, while assisting them to make informed decisions about their care. Certified Nurse Midwives are nurses with graduate credentialing in midwifery. Direct-entry midwives are not necessarily nurses and carry the designation CPM (Certified Professional Midwife), LM (Licensed Midwife), or both.
