Seattle HypnoBirthing offers rounded childbirth education and labor preparation taught by Tracy Barrett Adams, clinical hypnotherapist, veteran childbirth educator, trained birth assistant, and mother of four. Tracy’s been teaching HypnoBirthing in her Wallingford classroom since 2011, and emphasizes personal connection with each student in both private and group classes.
HypnoBirthing is for mother-to-be and her birthing companion. Over five 2.5 hour classes, you’ll learn special breathing, relaxation, and self-hypnosis practices to help you assist, rather than resist, the process of labor and birth. You’ll also learn to prepare your body for an easier birth, strategies to avoid artificial induction, and moving through unexpected situations with calm. Birth companions learn to provide meaningful, effective support. At Seattle HypnoBirthing, classes are geared to benefit women birthing at home, birth center, or hospital, fostering self-advocacy and an air of mutual respect for the family and healthcare team.
Breastfeeding and Baby Basics Workshop covers the essentials to get breastfeeding off to a great start, latching, breastfeeding positions, feeding tips/techniques, how to know baby is getting enough to eat, and more. You’ll learn about newborn care through hands-on practice with dolls to provide mastery of baby basics like diapering, swaddling, and bathing. You’ll also learn about making the most of limited sleep and other strategies to prepare for the early weeks of parenthood.
HypnoMothering is a fun, practical class is for new mothers, teaching easy and fast self-hypnosis techniques to create calm and balance on challenging days, enhance bonding, find focus and mindfulness.

“Tracy was such a pleasure to take hypnobirthing classes from! The class structure and organization was very well thought out. The hypnobirthing techniques I learned have created a new sense of peace and calmness surrounding my upcoming birth day. I feel much more confident, and my partner benefited from the classes tremendously. We’re both very pleased with the whole experience.” Elektra L
“We loved our experience with Seattle Hypnobirthing! … I have extreme anxiety in medical situations and was looking for a way to calm myself down and get normal blood pressure readings (or within an acceptable range) at my doctor appointments – something my anxiety made incredibly difficult. While I was never able to completely get control of those blood pressure readings (though if we had started hypnobirthing earlier, I may have been able to work through that better), hypnobirthing allowed me to have the most natural birth possible under the circumstances. We were induced, but never actually needed the petocin and I even went without an epidural. Without hypnobirthing, my experience would have been SO much more difficult. It kept me calm and relaxed through the whole labor, in spite of my anxiety. It also helped my husband and I to know exactly what to do for me to make me the most comfortable. Because of the class, we had so many important conversations before the birth that we didn’t even know we should be having! It made us closer as a couple and helped my husband to feel like more than just a bystander. He was an active participant in our baby’s birth. Before signing up, we were worried it would be a little too “out there” for us. However, the instructors were very grounded and we found everyone participating to be exceeding normal and fun to talk to. So worth the time, so worth the money … we’ll probably be back for a refresher course when we get around to having our second!” Jill R
“My husband I learnt so much about the whole birthing process from Tracy. Before I started the course I was very excited to be a mom but anxious about labor and what a natural birth would be like. By the end of the course, my husband and I were so excited about the birth. We learnt about the physical process of labor and how to assist the body in the birthing process. Tracy provided us with the information we needed to know what we really wanted in the birth of our first child. We were then able to communicate our wishes to the hospital staff to achieve our planned birth. The relaxation techniques that are taught in the course allowed me to feel in control and manage my labor without medication. Importantly, the course provided my husband with the skills to be able to assist me in helpful ways throughout the labor. Thank you so much Tracy – I really feel like I was able to achieve the birth that I’d hoped for because of what you taught us.” Karina D
“When I told my obstetrician about my concerns regarding the potential side effects of pain medication during labor and delivery, she recommended hypnobirthing classes. I’d never heard of hypnobirthing, but found information about Tracy and her practice, Seattle HypnoBirthing, on Yelp.
Despite being a mental health counselor and believing in mindfulness and other arguably talternative therapeutic techniques, I was skeptical that hypnosis skills could help prepare me and my partner for childbirth.
During our first meeting with Tracy, my skepticism was assuaged by her authenticity, warmth, and grounded, logical approach. We met with her individually four times during the last few weeks of my pregnancy. I found the breathing, relaxation and affirmation techniques very helpful. In combination with Tracy’s anecdotal stories about clients’ childbirth experiences, the techniques made me feel confident in our ability to have the labor and delivery we hoped for. My husband found “being aware of what we were walking into, and all the potential possibilities of how things could transpire was very helpful; and having a very clear role of how to help you made me feel confident and in control.”
Our daughter’s birth went as we hoped. We labored at home for several hours, taking Tracy’s advice to eat and drink fluids, and remain as relaxed and comfortable as possible. By the time we arrived at Swedish First Hill I was 7cm dilated. Thanks to hypnobirthing, throughout labor I felt relaxed and confident that my body and baby were working in harmony. At no point was I afraid or did I feel the need for pain medication. My husband was more supportive than I could have hoped for. He was calm, attentive, fully present and happy throughout the labor and delivery. Four hours after our arrival at the hospital, our daughter was born.
We feel Tracy played a significant role in our very positive childbirth experience. If you have any concerns about labor and delivery, or if you simply feel you could benefit from strengthening your relaxation skills or your partners’ support skills, don’t hesitate to meet with Tracy. She was wonderful!” Claudia & Ed
